  • Law Matters—the online archive for the Law Matters newsletter, published three times yearly, which reports on developments, ideas, programs, and resources in the field of public education about the law.

  • OJJDP Fact Sheets—A selective listing of Fact Sheets of particular interest to the YFJ community is offered below. You can also view the full listing of OJJDP Fact Sheet titles.



  • Phi Alpha Delta Public Service Center Lesson Plans—Information on a collection of lesson plans on topics ranging from conflict resolution to copyright infringement is available on the Phi Alpha Delta website. Click on the "PSC" link on the left navigation bar and then select "Publications" from the "List of links" drop-down menu.

  • Technical Assistance Bulletins—more than twenty Technical Assistance Bulletins on issues ranging from working with state and local bar association to addressing the problem of vicarious violence in the media.

  • Trainers Times—an online archive of the Trainers Times newsletter, a resource for the national network of law-related education (LRE) teachers and trainers interested in promoting LRE best practices.

Other Resources

A selective sampling of the many additional resources that can support and enhance your LRE program offerings.

  • Landmark Supreme Court Cases—a website co-developed by YFJ national partner Street Law, Inc. and the Supreme Court Historical Society. The site provides teachers with a full range of resources and activities to support the teaching of landmark Supreme Court cases, enabling students to explore key issues related to the cases. Featured cases range from the 1803 decision in Marbury v. Madison to the opinions in Texas v. Johnson, the 1989 flag-burning case.

  • National Law-Related Resource Center—created in 1991 by the American Bar Association Division for Public Education, a national YFJ partner, the National Law-Related Resource Center (NLRC) serves K-12 schools, college and university liberal arts faculty as well as the general public. NLRC can point you to magazines, newsletters, technical assistance papers, anthologies, syllabi, bibliographies, videotapes, software, posters, journalists' guides, law client products, law career information, and hundreds of law-related educational products and services.

  • National Youth Court Center—the National Youth Court Center (NYCC) acts as a central clearinghouse for information about youth court programs across the country. The Center also provides training and technical assistance and offers resource materials on how to develop and enhance youth court programs.

  • TeachLRE Newsletter—Youth for Justice offers "TeachLRE," an e-newsletter for teachers interested in LRE resources on-line. TeachLRE is open to anyone interested in law-related education, and it is designed as a service to which State LRE Centers can subscribe teachers in their networks. Subscribers will receive YFJ Net News and other informational resources which are regularly developed and shared by the national LRE community. Content will be coordinated by the Constitutional Rights Foundation in partnership with the other Youth for Justice Grantees. To subscribe, simply click on the link above. Annual Events

Events sponsored by the YFJ national partners for both students and educators, including summer institutes, conferences, student competitions, and youth summits.

  • The American Bar Association Division for Public Education hosts an annual National Online Youth Summit (NOYS) for approximately 40 high school classrooms around the nation. The summits are designed to encourage young people to think critically about a timely legal or public policy issue. Participation in NOYS is by application.

  • The Center for Civic Education schedules a series of annual events as part of its "We the People" programs. These include:

  • In cooperation with the UCLA School of Law, the Constitutional Rights Foundation sponsors a Summer Law Institute for high school students interested in learning more about the American legal system. Students participating in the weeklong institute stay at UCLA campus dormitories, enjoying a taste of college life while they learn more about the law. Tuition costs cover room and board and local transportation; financial need scholarship are available.

  • The Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago sponsors both regional and national professional development events for teachers, including the CRFC Illinois LRE Conference and the CRFC Summer Institutes Program.

  • In cooperation with the Supreme Court Historical Society, Street Law, Inc. sponsors two five-day Supreme Court Summer Institutes for secondary school social studies, law, and government teachers. Admission to the program is competitive, with 30 participants selected for each of the five-day sessions.

  • Every two years, the American Bar Association Division for Public Education hosts the National Law-Related Education Leadership Conference, the principal national professional development and networking conference for leaders in the LRE field. Participants include educators, legal professionals, bar association staff, juvenile justice professionals, LRE project staff, and others interested in teaching children about the law and citizenship. The next conference will be held September 6 - 8, 2007, at the Hotel Monteleone, located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana.
